AI Behavior & Persona

By default your agent is a helpful website assistant that answers strictly from your content. You can shape how it answers — its role, tone, and focus — in Widget → AI.

Custom AI behavior is available on Base and above. On the Free plan the bot uses a fixed, neutral assistant persona. See Plans & Billing.

Quick presets

Pick a role to load a ready-made persona:

Then optionally choose an Industry to add domain-appropriate framing. The role and industry compose into the editable instructions below — you can refine the text freely.

Custom instructions

The System prompt field holds free-text instructions (up to 4000 characters). Write in plain language — describe the bot's personality, what to emphasize, what to avoid, and how to address visitors. Example:

You are the friendly assistant for a boutique coffee roastery.
Be warm and concise. Recommend beans based on the visitor's taste
(fruity vs chocolatey, espresso vs filter). Always mention free
shipping over $40. If asked about wholesale, suggest the contact form.

The instructions are written in English but the bot always replies in the visitor's language. Click Save to apply.

What you can't override

Two rules always apply on top of your persona — they protect answer quality and your brand:

  1. Answer only from indexed content. The bot won't invent facts or prices, no matter what the persona says.
  2. Always stay civil. The bot won't insult or abuse a visitor, even if instructed to be rude.

Tips

  • Keep it specific and short — a focused persona beats a long rambling one.
  • State the goal of each conversation (inform, sell, book, collect a lead) so the bot stays on track.
  • Pair the persona with Lead Capture or Booking so the bot has a clear next step to drive toward.
  • Use the Overview test chat to try the persona before going live, and iterate on the wording.
